The first book was better. This book was okay. It dragged on a little for me. But I persevered. I think the first half was better than the second.
Maggy's "secrets" seemed a little silly to me and not so shocking or something she couldn't have trusted Findley with. And she found her independence as a woman, but still can't defy her late husband's uncle and marry who she wants? Did not understand that. She had already defied him in other ways. In the first book they get around a betrothal by getting married, why can't that happen in this book too? The reason she couldn't marry didn't seem like a good reason to me.
And the hot and cold feelings between Maggy and Findley? Oh my goodness! So annoying and too much. Sweet and getting along and then shouting at each other the next minute and saying very hurtful things. And with just the smallest trigger that it's dumb...in my opinion. It got tiring and made it drag on and on.
There were also some random characters that just popped up out of nowhere and had a little part in the story. Tisdale made them kind of important, but not important enough. Things could have worked out without these people.
The book was pretty clean. No explicit scenes. Sex outside marriage, but no major details.
I'm not giving up on Tisdale, though. I already bought the other books in this series. Maybe should have waited and gotten one at a time, but I'm hopeful that the other books will be better. She really hooked me with the first story. And I'm looking forward to hearing how Wee William gets his lady.

I absolutely loved Findley and Maggy's story. I couldn't wait to read it after finishing "Laiden's Daughter". When I bought the ebook, I also bought the audio version with Brad Wills reading since it was on special at the time. I was so pleasantly surprised, and enjoyed listening to his magical voice, that I went back and bought all I could of this series. I wasn't sure I'd like the audio version, but I loved it. After hearing the reading, I went back and read the book and enjoyed it even more. Findley and Maggy's story is full of romance, adventures, and unconditional love all set in beautiful Scotland. I would recommend this entire series, both audio and ebook versions to anyone. The plot kept you guessing until the end, and the romantic love scenes were just that....not so "detailed" that a teen wouldn't be able to enjoy! The characters are so well developed that it's a good thing they included in the other books or I'd have to say I'll actually miss them.
This is the second book in The Clan MacDougall Series and it's just a good as the first one.
Findley met Maggy in the 1st book as he and a few of the clan members were searching for their missing cattle. He decided that instead of punishing the boys, he would take them home. Their mom came out the door ready to do battle for her sons and Findley was lost.
Maggy is fiercely protective of the little clan she has around her. Most of their clan died from the pox. All that is left are a few old women and Maggys 5 boys. Maggy has secrets and her boys are as protective of her as she is of them. Boy can they throw rocks and hit their target.
Findley thinks everyday about Maggy after he and his men leave. So he decides that he will try to get the little group to move to Castle Gregor and decides that convincing Maggy might be a little hard. So he and his men take several wagons loaded with provisions to them. What they find when they arrive is terrible. Someone has massacred all of the old women. Maggy and her boys are missing.
Findley begins his quest to find them knowing that the piece of fabric he found on the ground belongs to the Buchanans.
The journey Findley and Maggy take to rescue Maggys young son Ian is wonderful. Handcuffs are involved. Humor by all of them. Misunderstandings by young boys who don't understand grown ups but think that they can be grown up. There is desire between Findley and Maggy. There are secrets that each hold close to themselves. Throughout everything, there is a longing for acceptance, trust and love.
I loved this story so much that I stayed up all night to read it. Everytime I thought I would go to bed my mind wouldn't let me. I just had to know what was happening to each of them. I cried at one point and still feel the loss of Patrick. He would have had a great story of his own. At the end though, I just wanted to start clapping like I would for a well done play.
I have a feeling that the next book will be the same for me so I will be starting it on Friday so I can stay up all night again.
Start the series wiith Laiden's Daughter and prepare to fall in love with all of the men from Clan MacDougall.
