Of all the romances I have read, and there have been a lot, Mine till Midnight is one of the very few which had a moment so sincerely romantic that I had to pause, fan my face, and collect myself. I just love the heroine. Amelia Hathaway is one of my all-time favourites. Sensible and stalwart, she has been holding the pieces of her family together by strength of will alone. When a charming and unusual man enters her life, giving her support and a much needed chance to unclench, if only in private, Amelia is swept off her feet before she really knows what has happened.Mine till Midnight is a strong starting point for the Hathaway series. Somewhat unfortunately, in addition to a suddenly surprisingly Machiavellian villain, it also has what seems to me an absolutely pointless ghost story subplot that crescendos towards the end. Moreover, the hero, Cam Rohan, is of Romany (gypsy) descent, as is the hero of the next book, Seduce Me at Sunrise. While I appreciated the effort to bring a person of colour (for the times) into a historical romance, I grew quickly tired of what I think of as “the Romany bulls***”: fetishized exoticism, plus “gypsy” medical knowledge that was implausible for someone who has been isolated from his own culture since he was 10 years old.
Despite those misgivings, this is still a Lisa Kleypas romance and well worth the read and re-read should you decide to buy it.

So, I read the Wall Flower serious, which I recommend to read first, and I enjoyed reading those books very much. They are separate from this series but they introduce some important characters, that reappear in this book and explain the connections. It is not a must but I highly recommend it because it also shows the style of this author.
I love the humor she mixes in. Her favorite time frame is set when Industrial England became the leading, driving force verses The Peers. It shows the time when the Peers were struggling to understand the change and most didn't survive or reluctantly had to mix and mingle with the working force in order to afford their lifestyle. She mixes America and its own history and " Blue Blood " society. I prefer the older time frame but she has a special way of writing and mixing it well .
I don't like writing reviews that give away the story.
But rest assured, if you read these novels for the charm but don't take it too serious , it is the right thing to read.
The stories are the same.... in each of any novel you buy that falls under this category, but she has a magical way to bring the characters alive make you laugh out loud and feel deeply for them. Throughout you will discover who you will like the most and yes as you read along you would wonder, would they really have said this or that? Dared to ? But she has the right mixture. In this book, Cam and Amelia become involved and that is how this Hathaway series begins.Cam is a character from the third and fourth Wall Flower series. The fun part with this Hathaway series is that there are five siblings and once I began to read the first one, I was thrilled to know I had four more to go. She writes fluently and in both series she really makes the bond and strength that comes from being family the focal point. Siblings help each other through tough times, and celebrate the good times. Each one has a moment of drama and tension and in the end a happy ending but with a twist. It brings a lot of joy to read her books. They are not deep and teach history in a very slight way. But it is for the heart without being dramatic. Just fun, entertaining. But I enjoy the humor so much and the characters have become dear to me, that I can't wait to read on. She mixes the story of the surroundings well with characters needs and growth. I hope you will see it for what it is, a fun, easy, caring story. That grows on you. Without being overly dramatic or detailed or gets you bored or lost. Enjoy.
I'm not a big historical romance reader but give me a historical romance by Julia Garwood or Lisa Kleypas and I won't be disappointed. This wasn't my favorite Lisa Kleypas book but I did really enjoy it.
Cam was a wonderful hero and one of my favorites. He was passionate, stubborn, a rock to lean on, funny and well just about everything you want in a man. Amelia was also a strong character. She had so much on her shoulders, she was strong, stubborn and loyal. The snark between the two was cute and fun and I really enjoyed their romance. <spoiler>although I got a little frustrated with Amelia once she was sleeping with Cam every night but still wouldn't agree to marry him</spoiler>.
I will admit I thought the ghost story was a little silly and I wanted a bit more to the "villain" plot but overall I really enjoyed this book.
The secondary characters were charming and so much fun to read about, except Leo who I just wanted to shake/smack! I am really looking forward to the next book in this series.
First off, I love Lisa Kleypas and have read a ton of her books. I love The Ravenels and The Wallflower series, so when I saw that some old characters would make an appearance, I jumped to get this book, after all Kleypas hadn't let me down yet.
That being said, this book was just awful. While I wanted to like Cam, the hero, I was getting a rapey vibe from him toward the end. There was no depth to his feelings toward Amelia. Right when he sees her all he can think about is tearing her clothes off. And that is how it continues thoughout the book, just him constantly keeping himself from tearing her clothes off every time he sees her. No real feelings other than that.
As far as Amelia, the heroine, lord I was irritated with her. She is so overly controlling and hovering over her siblings. She turns Cam down constantly for no reason. A match between them just made sense but far be it for Amelia to just let someone HELP her for god's sake.
Do yourself a favor and skip this one. There is no depth, no chemistry, and no real story line. It was boring and downright cringy in some spots.
